There are many studies that explore the benefits of having a birth doula present during labor.  Overall, these studies have found that having a doula often leads to:

  • Shorter labor
  • An increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal delivery
  •  A decrease in C-sections
  • A decrease in the use of Pitocin
  • A decrease in the use of a forceps or vacuum-assisted delivery
  • A decrease in the need for transportation of newborn to a special care nursery
  • Overall a more satisfying birth experience*
*Evidence Based Birth

There is no right way to deliver a baby, and there is no such thing as a “normal” delivery. My job is to help you have the most satisfying experience as you define it. As a birth doula, I will not make decisions for you, but instead help you gather information and make sense of varying opinions and options so you feel confident and informed in all aspects of your pregnancy and labor.  Through compassionate listening, gentle touch, observation, and non-judgment, I work to be a gatekeeper of your birthspace, be it in a hospital, birth center, or at home. I provide reassurance to birthers and partners, and I stay with you as a consistent familiar face throughout your entire labor and transition into postpartum.
